Shopocalypse!

Reverend Billy and the Stop Shopping Gospel Choir went on a holiday circuit to preach against corporate consumer culture from Wal-Mart to Disneyland.

Also, a nice bit of sarcasm from 5 years ago.

Letter From Victoria

it was a most unfortunate event and I truly regret that it happened.

so says Victoria Osteen, wife of pastor Joel Osteen.

It seems there was an altercation (according to the FBI) and there's nothing necessarily wrong with that. Who's never imagined strangling someone on a plane before? But there was a two hour delay for all the passengers on that plane and not even a proper apology. An apology?....Ewwwww. You mean even to the ones in coach class?

Government Eavesdropping Part 3

Patriot Act passes. Shocker. To review...from part 2:
Now, by the way, any time you hear the United States government talking about wiretap, it requires -- a wiretap requires a court order. Nothing has changed, by the way. When we're talking about chasing down terrorists, we're talking about getting a court order before we do so. It's important for our fellow citizens to understand, when you think Patriot Act, constitutional guarantees are in place when it comes to doing what is necessary to protect our homeland, because we value the Constitution.
How does he keep a straight face? How does the mass media keep a straight face? I guess that's why they call them the talent.

Craig Newmark of craigslist wonders if Bush really said this...
Stop throwing the Constitution in my face,” Bush screamed back. “It’s just a goddamned piece of paper!
Hmmmm....and an oath is just an oath. Quick! Where's Britney? Merry Christmas, y'all!

Government Eavesdropping Part 2

Some of these words are a little undesirable due to recent events. At first glance, it does seem bad...

But, it's just 4 more days until Christmas! Don't be a Grinch! Let's get our shopping done and maybe we'll forget about this.

Shelf Envy

I've been needing more shelf space for my books, etc. that have been cluttering up my scarce floor space. I'm intrigued by this favorable report on IKEA’s Tunhem Bookcase. Of course, I find myself in the unenviable position of visiting a place I ripped on not too long ago for their stupid advertising.

Where'd All the Good People Go?

You interrupt me from a friendly conversation To tell me how great its all gunna be
You might notice some hesitation
Cause whats important to you is not important to me
Way down by the edge of your reasons
Its beginning to show
And all I wanna know is..
Where'd all the good people go
Ive been changin channels
I dont see them on the tv shows
Where'd all the good people go
We got heaps and heaps of what we sow
